India March for Science, New Delhi

9th August became a red-lettered day in the history of science movement in India. More than 15,000 people took part in this March in 43 cities and towns of the country.

In Delhi the March started at 4.30 PM from Mandi House and ended at Jantar Mantar. More than 300 scientists, professors, teachers, research scholars, students and science loving people joined the March with colourful banners and placards. They came from Delhi University, JNU, IIT-Delhi, CSIR-labs, AIIMS, MDU-Rohtak and other leading science and research institutes. At Jantar Mantar Prof. Soumitro Banerjee (IISER-Kolkata, Bhatnagar Awardee and General Secretary of Breakthrough Science Society), Prof. Prabir Purakayastha (Delhi Science Forum), Dr. Vinay Kumar (Zakir Husain College, D.U.) and Mr. Chanchal Ghosh (Executive Committee Member of BSS) spoke on the occasion. The participants paid tribute to the three eminent scientists Prof. U R Rao, Prof. P M Bhargav and Prof. Yashpal who have passed away recently.
